Recognised as one of the fastest-growing areas within the creative industries, the global esports market is expected to expand year on year, reaching an estimated £4.4 billion in revenue by 2027. At the forefront of live event production, broadcasting, streaming, and content creation, esports presents an incredibly dynamic and evolving landscape—making this an ideal time to become part of it.

Our Esports Production course offers a distinctive and comprehensive education in esports, equipping you with the skills and knowledge required for a variety of roles in this fast-paced sector. The course begins with an exploration of the rich cultures and contexts surrounding gaming and esports, before progressing into the development of practical and adaptable skills in areas such as event production, data analytics, and broadcast technologies. Each academic year concludes with the planning and delivery of a live esports event, designed and executed by you.

You will have access to state-of-the-art facilities within our multimillion-pound Creative Technology Studios, which feature audio recording spaces, broadcast-standard radio production studios, multi-camera TV studios, and full green screen capability. Our teaching team brings extensive experience in broadcast and related technologies, with many still actively working in the industry, ensuring that your learning is informed by current professional practice.

What you will study

Block 1: Esports cultures and industries

In this module, you’ll explore the historical development of esports and dive into the cultures that shape gaming today. You'll examine the mechanics that make games competitive, and gain insight into the infrastructure that supports the esports industry. You'll also learn how the industry operates behind the scenes, from global tournaments to streaming platforms and professional teams.

Block 2: TV and radio studio production

This module introduces you to the core technical skills used in traditional media production, with hands-on experience in both radio and TV studio environments. You’ll build a strong foundation across a range of production techniques, giving you a broad and versatile skill set for working in media.

Block 3: Digital media design

In this module, you’ll get to grips with the basics of coding, user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) design, and the principles of design thinking. You’ll also explore social media strategy—learning how to improve your own content and how to develop effective, tailored campaigns for clients across different platforms.

Block 4: Esports on air

You’ll take on the challenge of producing a live-streamed esports event, delivered either on location or from the TV studio. This project will be professionally produced and broadcast to a live audience, giving you real-world experience of planning, managing, and delivering a live esports production.

Block 1: Esports ecosystems and analytics

In this module, you’ll explore the role of data analytics in esports and discover how data shapes decision-making across the industry. You’ll work with live data to understand its impact on business strategy, player performance, and audience engagement—and learn how analytics drives growth and innovation in the esports sector.

Block 2: Live broadcast for digital

This module covers the essentials of creating live and episodic content across platforms like Twitch, Instagram Live, Facebook Live, and more. You’ll gain practical experience in streamcasting and podcasting while learning how to develop a unique brand, whether for your own influencer identity or a content franchise. It’s all about building your presence and making your voice stand out in the digital space.

Block 3: Immersive and experiential media

In this module, you’ll explore emerging technologies including virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and motion capture. You’ll get hands-on experience with coding for app development, experiment with geolocation and geocaching, and design immersive installations that blend the digital and physical worlds.

Block 4: Esports events production

You’ll plan and deliver a hybrid event that takes place both in person and online through streaming platforms. Along the way, you’ll explore how to promote your event effectively and unlock opportunities for commercialisation, gaining practical experience in multi-platform event production and audience engagement.

Block 1: Esports community and innovation

This module focuses on community management and explores the future of esports through disruptive technologies and innovation. You’ll learn how to leverage communities for promotional opportunities and stay ahead of new developments shaping the industry.

Block 2: Creative content programming

In this module, you’ll develop skills in content and editorial strategy, learning how to create a franchise that spans multiple platforms. You’ll explore how to build and manage a channel across YouTube, podcasts, and social media, making the most of every content opportunity to reach and engage your audience.

Block 3: Portfolio project

This module combines research skills with practical advice on employability, including how to build a strong portfolio and succeed as a freelancer. You’ll also develop a final major project designed to showcase your talents and attract the attention of potential employers.

Block 4: Esports Expo

You will organize and produce a convention or community gathering that includes a competitive streaming component. This hands-on project will give you experience in event management and live content production within a community setting.

Our innovative international experience programme СÄñ½´×¨Ìâ Global aims to enrich studies, broaden cultural horizons and develop key skills valued by employers.

Through , we offer an exciting mix of overseas, on-campus and online international experiences, including the opportunity to study or work abroad for up to a year.

Media students have visited Prague to explore challenges faced by the media in the Czech Republic and another group got to see some of New York’s most famous programmes being recorded on a tour of NBC Studios. Students also explored how state-run media works in Eastern Europe on a trip to Hungary.

Demon Media

Demon Media is an award-winning media group whose graduates have gone on to work for some of the UK's leading media organisations, including the BBC, commercial radio, and national newspapers.

The group consists of three key strands: Demon FM, a radio station; a dedicated YouTube channel; and The Demon, a brand-new monthly magazine. These platforms provide students with invaluable hands-on experience in broadcasting, digital content creation, and print journalism, helping them to develop the skills necessary for a successful career in the media industry.

Placements are offered as part of this course through СÄñ½´×¨Ìâ Careers Team, and can boost your skills and experience while studying, as well as improving your chances of gaining a graduate level job.

We have links with organisations both in the UK and internationally, and the Placements Team will help you find a placement to suit your interests and aspirations.

Graduate careers

Esports Production is an industry-focused course which provides you with the technical foundations and practical skills needed to gain a leading role in digital broadcast or social media production across a sectors, as well as experience of branding, live event production and publicity.

Graduates from this programme could work in a wide range of careers such as event organisers, live streamers and esports coaches.

Past media students have also gone on to work as graphic designers, video editors and producers, independent video company directors, television presenters and web designers. The companies they’ve gone on to work for include Endemol, Ideal World TV, Lime Pictures, the Guardian, the Telegraph and the BBC.

Entry requirements

  • 104 points from at least 2 A Levels
  • BTEC Extended Diploma DMM
  • International Baccalaureate: 24+ Points or
  • T Levels Merit

Plus five GCSEs grades 9-4 including English Language or Literature at grade 4 or above.

  • Pass Access with 30 Level 3 credits at Merit (or equivalent) and GCSE English (Language or Literature) at grade 4 or above.

We will normally require students have had a break from full-time education before undertaking the Access course.

  • We also accept the BTEC First Diploma plus two GCSEs including English Language or Literature at grade 4 or above

Note: Applicants with non-standard qualifications may be asked to complete a piece of work to support their application.

English language requirements

If English is not your first language, an IELTS score of 6.0 overall with 5.5 in each band (or equivalent) when you start the course is essential.

English language tuition, delivered by our British Council-accredited Centre for English Language Learning, is available both before and throughout the course if you need it.
